Cricket Coaching Abroad – David Punn
I definitely had the best four weeks of my life in South Africa. I volunteered for sport coaching, focusing on my favourite sports, football and cricket. Coaching these sports to the kids was incredibly fun and fulfilling. Their enthusiasm and joy made each session worthwhile, and I enjoyed every moment we spent together.
Every weekend, UTS organised excursions for us. My favourite was the cricket match (SA20) we attended. It was my first time in a cricket stadium, and seeing international players in action was super cool. Other excursions included sandboarding, surfing, and an overnight safari. Each activity added to the adventure and provided unique experiences that I’ll never forget.
The accommodation was comfortable, and the food, prepared by the lovely mamas, was delicious. The UTS staff were friendly, supportive, and approachable, always ensuring we had everything we needed. Their dedication and care made the experience even more enjoyable
Living with other volunteers was a highlight. We quickly formed strong bonds, creating a supportive and fun environment. We shared meals, explored the local area, and participated in various activities together. The sense of community and camaraderie was incredible, and I felt lucky to be surrounded by such amazing people.
The time I spent in South Africa flew by, but the memories I made will last a lifetime. The experience taught me to appreciate different cultures, value the joy of giving, and cherish the simple pleasures in life. I miss everyone and the wonderful time I had there. Volunteering with United Through Sport was a life-changing experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for an adventure and a chance to make a difference. I hope to return someday and continue contributing to this incredible program.
