Oscar’s Tennis Internship in South Africa
During my time volunteering with United Through Sport in March 2024, I mainly coached tennis, completing an internship focused on this sport. Throughout the duration of my placement, I had the privilege of coaching numerous tennis lessons for enthusiastic children, witnessing first-hand the transformative power of sports in their lives.
I’m most proud of organizing and hosting my very own tennis tournament, a culmination of weeks of hard work and dedication. Seeing the excitement and joy on the faces of the participating children was immensely gratifying, knowing that I had played a role in their new found love for the sport. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of the dedicated staff and fellow volunteers at UTS, whose collective efforts amplified the impact of our work within the communities we served.
On weekends and evenings, I had the opportunity to engage in various fun activities with my fellow volunteers, such as padel games, meals out, and social soccer games. This brought us closer as a group, allowing me to make friends for life. This experience has not only enriched my own understanding of the power of sports but has also instilled in me a deep sense of fulfilment from making a tangible difference in the lives of others.
